Thailand today, January 7th, announced 193 domestic infections among 305 new cases and one additional death case nationwide, according to CCSA spokesman Taweesin Visanuyuthin.
The 67th death was an 88-year-old man from Rayong who was a bedridden patient with cancer and several other underlying conditions. He was reportedly infected by his son who was traveling to a high-risk area in Rayong and later tested positive for Coronavirus.
The patient was having a low fever and dry cough before testing positive for the deadly virus on January 3rd at Rayong Hospital. His health conditions became worsening with low oxygen levels, high blood pressure, and a fast heart rate. He was pronounced dead on January 6th at around 6:00 AM.
As for the domestic cases, a total of 193 infections are discovered in Bangkok 47, Samut Sakhon 40, Samut Prakan 25, Pathum Thani 6, Ayuttaya 3, Nakhon Pathom 3, Ang Thong 2, Sing Buri 2, Lob Buri 2, Chiang Mai 2, Khon Kaen 1, Ratchaburi 1, and Suphan Buri 1.
More confirmed patients in Chonburi 27, Rayong 13, Chanthaburi 8, Samut Prakan 5, Bangkok 2, Suphan Buri 1, Khon Kaen 1, and Trat 1 are under disease investigation.
109 cases are from migrant workers who are housed in quarantine style dormitories or buildings and do not have exposure to the general public. As for an announcement yesterday about 900 cases allegedly found in Samut Sakhon, these cases were, according to Dr. Taweesin, spread over a series of many days and already included in the numbers.
Dr. Taweesin also mentioned the recent announcement of the Royal Gazette regarding the highest controlled measures in the highest and strictest controlled areas in five provinces, implemented under the Emergency Decree.
Locals in the provinces, namely Nonthaburi, Chonburi, Trat, Rayong, and Samut Sakhon, are strongly advised to download ‘Mor Chana’ and ‘Thai Chana’ applications on their smartphones. Those who wish to leave the controlled areas for necessary reasons must seek documents of travel authorization issued at the provincial city hall.
Persons who failed to follow the new restrictions, including the application installation, are facing a penalty of up to two-year imprisonment and/or a fine not exceeding 40,000 baht or both, according to the notification.
