General Prawit Wongsuwan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, was appointed as a leader of a special committee for examining migrant smuggling today, December 25th, to potentially reduce an increasing number of undocumented workers across Thai borders.
The temporary committee, proposed by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O’Cha, will focus on tracking and investigating any agencies that were organizing and supporting illegal entry of migrant workers via natural borders.
The Prime Minister stated: “We have to expose and get rid of those who were behind the illegal activities. We also need to give support and encouragement to police, military, and the civil servants who dedicated their time to monitor the worsening situation, especially during the New Year. The illegal entry of undocumented migrants and worldwide epidemic of Covid-19 must be solved and we must collaborate to better the society.”
The Prime Minister also urged members of the governmental parties and all ministries to jointly work together and seek for solutions of migrant workers, cargo transportation, travel restrictions, and strict health measures to resolve the new wave of Covid-19 Coronavirus.
