New Year’s countdown festival in Nakhon Ratchasima cancelled due to concern over possible transmission of Covid-19 Coronavirus

Nakhon Ratchasima –

Nakhon Ratchasima’s public relation’s page called ‘Korat Next Step’ announced online that one of the provincial New Year’s celebrations ‘Korat Countdown Festival 2021’ is canceled due to concerns about concert arrangements and the situation of the Covid-19 outbreak.

The Festival was initially scheduled at Mayfair Market for seven days and seven nights, from December 25 to the 31st, featuring free concerts and various artists. A statue of a giant cow was used to promote the event and was planned to be staged to the festival to welcome the Year of the Ox in the Chinese year calendar.

It had reportedly drawn thousands of participants last year and generated a large amount of income for the province every year.

The cancellation was announced by the organizers after Korat governor Wichian Chantaranothai previously ordered the cancellation of one of Thailand’s biggest music festivals ‘Big Mountain’ on December 13th, reasoning that the organizers had failed to control the audiences in wearing face masks, performing social distancing, and other health measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19 Coronavirus.

The Pattaya News notes, however, that there is no ban on New Year’s Countdowns and the Public Health Ministry has stressed they can continue with proper safety measures across the country. Pattaya City is planning on holding their much anticipated countdown festival with major Thai artists, although with heavy Covid-19 precautions. The Amari will also be holding a major countdown festival in Pattaya with major artists and events.
