Kanchanaburi –
A group of 25 Burmese illegal immigrants was caught in Kanchanaburi yesterday, December 13th, after attempting to cross the border to enter Thailand via a natural route with the assistance of a Thai national.
Border police were patrolling along the Thai-Myanmar border in Mueang Kanchanaburi District in accordance with the strict policy to prevent illegal transboundary workers that could be carrying the Covid-19 Coronavirus in Thailand when a total of 14 male and 11 female immigrants were discovered at the early hours of Saturday.
The batch was taken to Mueang Kanchanaburi Police Station, where they allegedly confessed that they hired a Thai dealer for 9,000 baht to assist them in illegally crossing the border and provide them transportation as they were planning to work in Kanchanaburi and nearby provinces.
The alleged broker reportedly managed to flee the scene during the official arrest. Police were conducting an investigation to identify the Thai man while all of the illegal workers were under the supervision of public health officials for health screening and testing for Covid-19.
The preliminary results showed that none of the immigrants had a higher body temperature than 37.5. However, they still remained in police custody while performing 14-day state quarantine.
