Nakhon Ratchasima –

The Big Mountain Music Festival 2020 in Nakhon Ratchasima was approved to continue for its last day until tonight, Public Health minister Anutin Charnvirakul said this afternoon, December 13, shortly after the closedown order was made by the Nakhon Ratchasima governor over coronavirus fears.

The biggest music event of the year in Pak Chong district was believed to be canceled on its second day following the order of Nakhon Ratchasima governor Wichien Chantharanothai early today.

According to the governor, the event did not limit the number of participants in which many of them were not reportedly wearing face masks while participating, causing possible congestion of the Covid-19 coronavirus.

More fear sparked as there was also a rumor spreading that a female concert-goer who was traveling from Chiang Mai by a public van with 7 of her friends to participate in the music event was infected from the Covid-19 as she was reportedly suffering from fever and constantly panting at the event before being transferred to Nakorn Ratchasima hospital.

However, Dr. Opas Karnkawinpong, director-general of the Department of Disease Control (DDC), has calmed the public down by announcing that said the woman was suffering from muscle weakness and tested negative for the novel coronavirus, along with her 7 friends.

Hours after the governor’s announcement, the public health minister posted an online message on his Facebook account, overruling the order and stating that Big Mountain Music Festival 2020 will continue on Sunday but the organizers are warned to strictly enforce social distancing measures and every health regulations from the Ministry.

He said: “The team of Provincial Public Health doctors noticed that most of the attendees put on a mask but a few didn’t. However, all of them terribly failed to perform social distancing measures because there was a huge crowd at every stage.”

“The Public Health Ministry has informed the situation to the Nakhon Ratchasima governor and the Provincial Communicable Diseases Committee and had ordered to suggest solutions to the problems found at the event.”

“The Public Health Ministry had no policy to forbid any activities but the organizers must comply with public health measures for the benefit of the public,” he concluded.

As of this evening, the Big Mountain organizers recently posted an online statement, asking the concert-goers for cooperation not to bring food and drinks into the stage area for their own best to enjoy the music and their own safety.
