Restaurant owner arrested in Samut Sakhon province for allegedly conducting human trafficking and sexual exploitation against young females

A restaurant owner, whose name and age are being withheld by Thai authorities, and a young female worker were captured on Friday, December 4th, at a karaoke bar and restaurant in Samut Sakhon for allegedly conducting human trafficking and sexual exploitation against young females.

The Damrongtham Center of the Ministry of the Interior received a tip-off from the Operation Underground Railroad organization that children under the age of 18 were allegedly being exploited for sexual exploitation in a karaoke restaurant in the Krathumban district, which is also liable for human trafficking offenses.

According to the official investigation, young female teenagers would allegedly offer sexual related services to customers at the premises before then leaving to at a local hotel. The restaurant owner would reportedly receive a share of the benefit from the sexual related services.

The raid was conducted by officials from the Department of Provincial Administration’s special operations at around 10:00 PM. A female victim under 16 years old and the restaurant owner were captured at the scene.

The young girl was taken to a temporary protection center under the protection of the Social Development and Human Security Office of Samut Sakhon Province, while the owner was delivered to Krathumbaen District Office for further interrogation and legal proceedings.

The restaurant owner is initially being charged for human trafficking by seeking sexual exploitation from child prostitution, arranging the prostitution of persons under 18 years of age, arranging the acts of indecent sex against persons over 15 but less than 18 years old, and encouraging children to behave inappropriately.
