A group of pro-democracy students and young activists, who call themselves the “Bad Students”, have announced online on Monday, November 10 that its pro-democracy march from the Ministry of Education to the Democracy Monument in Bangkok will be organized this Saturday, November 14.
According to their statement, the protest this weekend is considered to be a preparation rally before a more major one would occur at the end of November.
Similar to other pro-democracy groups, this incoming protest of the Bad Student movement would reiterate their demands of the prime minister’s resignation, the Constitution redrafting, and the reform of the highest institution.
It is reported that what they believed to be the biggest pro-democracy movement of high school students would be scheduled on November 21 as they had previously announced last Friday, November 6, at the Democracy Monument, stating that they would demand Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O’Cha’s resignation in order to take responsibility for appointing Nataphol Teepsuwan as the Education Minister.
Nataphol has been allegedly, according to the students complaints, neglecting to solve the ongoing education system problems in Thailand, including physical and sexual harassment by school authorities and refusing to listen to the students’ opinions, according to their statement on Friday.
Meanwhile, a number of police officers including female police will be deployed at the Ministry of Education and the Democracy Monument to maintain peace and order during the march, police spokesman Yingyot Thepchamnong told the press yesterday, November 11.
Yingyot stated: “More female police will be stationed at both locations not to confront the students but to make sure that the protest will be organized accordingly with the law.”
“We understand that high school students also have the right to express their political thoughts as long as they are not against the law. This movement will also have to be done in accordance with legal procedures.”
