Chonburi-

A Myanmar migrant worker died while eleven migrant workers have sustained various injuries after a pickup truck collided with a ten wheel truck in Mueang Chonburi yesterday Morning (October 21).

The Chonburi Highway Police was notified of the accident at 8:00 AM on Motorway 7 road in the Nong Kangkok sub-district.

Police and emergency responders arrived at the scene to find the body of Mr. Juan, 35, a Burmese national. The victim appeared to only go by his first name.

Eleven migrant workers sustained various injuries. They were taken to a local hospital for immediate medical assistance.

The damaged pickup truck and a ten wheeler truck were found on the road nearby.

The pick-up truck driver, Mr. Sutin Yaohuaythong, 37, who was not injured, told Mueang Chonburi police that he was carrying twelve workers to a construction site in a nearby sub-district.

He tried to overtake another vehicle but failed before losing control and crashing. The migrant workers were riding in the bed of the truck, which is technically against the law but not widely enforced and especially common in the construction industry in Thailand.

Migrant workers who were on the back of the pickup truck were thrown from the vehicle following the collision.

Mueang Chonburi police continue to investigate the accident and are considering pressing charges against the driver once they have finished reviewing CCTV and interviewing witnesses.
