Thai Department of Highways set to build new rest areas, starting with Pattaya Motorway Number 7

Bangkok, Thailand,

The Department of Highways(DOH) is planning to construct brand new three story rest areas on major highways starting construction by the end of 2021.

The Director-General of the Department of Highways, Sarawut Songsiwilai, told the press this week that the new rest areas are designed to help alleviate some traffic concerns as well as provide additional resources for road users especially during major festivals.

The new rest stops will be a three story design originally based off a similar one in South Korea. They will be designed all above ground with ample parking space on all sides.

The first rest stop is set to be constructed on Motorway Number Seven which runs from the Bangkok, Chonburi, Pattaya to Map Ta Phut area. The project will be funded by private companies and investors and not by the government or tax payers, the government added.
