Thailand’s telecom company CAT develops ‘Covid Tracker’ application to monitor foreigners and their health records during state quarantine

National –

CAT Telecom Public Company Limited, together with hardware company IBM, has developed an application to track foreigners and their health conditions to prevent the risk and the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus as Thailand is preparing for its re-opening.

Dr. Wongkot Vijacksungsithi, the Executive Vice President from the Corporate Strategy Group of CAT Telecom, revealed today, October 9, that the company currently focuses on developing digital services to help increase operational efficiency in business sectors, especially in situations where Covid-19 had severe affected the sectors nationally and internationally.

The application, called ‘Covid Tracker’ is, therefore, launched in order to principally monitor and report the risk of local transmission of Covid-19 nationwide. It is believed to be hugely beneficial for hotels and other ASQ-registered accommodations to increase strict health preparations and health measures when accommodating foreign tourists in the country.

Each guest will be provided with an individual online account where all health records and information are documented on an online server of a hotel administration.

Wongkot told the Associated Press: “The application is designed to facilitate all government-approved quarantine hotels to be able to monitor their quarantined foreign customers’ health without the need to directly contact them during their 14-day isolation in the rooms.”

“It will also help the hotel staff when it comes to managing bookings and other guest information efficiently since each tourist will be given a username and a password which will be used to individually collect information and track their health information in real time as the guest will be responsible for their own daily records after a daily health check.”

The Covid Tracker will also be able to arrange all documented health information and forward them to the Department of Disease Control immediately in case there are suspicious symptoms related to any Covid-19 infection found in a hotel guest.

According to the executive vice president, the first target group will be a group of 150 Chinese tourists who are expected to arrive in Phuket on October 25.

“We believe that this tracking application is well designed to cover every requirement needed for preventing the spread of COVID-19 in the country and it would potentially help the recovery of the domestic economy as well as the tourism industry in the country,” Wongkot stated.
