Bangkok –
A female vendor was placed under arrest in Bangkok today, October 8, after reportedly operating an online shopping scam with women’s pajamas via a Facebook page, with a total worth of 50 million baht.
The arrest was conducted following complaints from roughly 70 customers who reported to the Bangkok police starting on September 24 that the online webpage titled ‘Butter Girl Shop’ had continuously postponed shipping for several months and had not yet delivered their orders.
One of the alleged victims told the police that she had transferred 3,752,000 baht to the page owner who promised her order to be delivered by September 19, but none of the pajamas were delivered that day. The owner later told her that it would be delivered by September 24, claiming that packages from China had not yet arrived.
She and other customers decided to file a report to the police after the online vendor reportedly disappeared, deleted her online accounts and fled on September 30th.
Page operator Natcharee Phatrakiatwisarn, 33, was captured in front of a military officer’s apartment in the Anusawari Sub-district before being taken to the Bang Khen Police Station.
Natcharee told the officers that she had been operating the Facebook page for more than a year. She would purchase dozens of women’s pajamas from China before selling them in large budles for her customers who would also sell them online or at street markets.
The alleged fraudster claimed that she had also transferred a total of 30 million baht to manufacturers in China and had not received the orders as well. She claimed she was just about to refund all her customers shortly before she was arrested this morning.
The initial investigation revealed that Natcharee had been previously arrested in Samut Sakorn over a different fraud charge in which approximately forty customers were reportedly deceived in transferring over 50 million baht to the alleged scammer.
