Elderly Thai man rescued after climbing high voltage power pole in Pattaya area

Nongprue, Pattaya-

An elderly Thai man was successfully rescued last night after he climbed a tall high voltage power pole in the Pattaya area.

The man, 74, whose name was withheld per editorial policy, was reportedly depressed and ascended the pole around 10:30 PM on Highway Number 36 in Nongprue.

Banglamung police first received a call from a concerned local resident who saw the man climbing and responded to the scene with rescue services and the fire department.

A monk from a nearby temple was called to assist on a loudspeaker to encourage the man to come down from the pole.

The man eventually decided to try to come down but discovered he was too weak and became stuck. Firefighters utilized a crane style ladder on a fire truck to successfully rescue the man.

He was brought to a local hospital for a psychiatric evaluation. He and his family declined to comment on the incident to police or the press.
