Seven killed, 33 injured in major Korat tour bus accident heading to Pattaya

At least seven village health volunteers were killed while 33 have sustained various injuries when a bus they were travelling in from Roi-Et to Pattaya crashed into a trailer truck in Korat early this morning.

“Hook 31 Korat” rescue workers were notified of the accident at 3:44 AM at the Naklang Intersection on Korat – Pak Thongchai Road in Chai Mongkhol sub-district, Mueang District.

They arrived at the scene to find an overturned tour bus and a severely damaged trailer truck.

Rescue workers reported to associated press that there were about forty passengers on the tour bus. At least seven people were pronounced dead at the scene while 33 people had sustained various injuries.

Rescue workers used specialized equipment to free trapped passengers from the tour bus. They were taken to a local hospital for medical assistance.

They noted that passengers in the tour bus were village health volunteers from Roi-Et. They were heading to Pattaya for a group conference.

Police are continuing their investigation to find the exact cause of the accident. Early reports indicate the bus driver may have fallen asleep but police have not made a final determination at this time.
