A fugitive inmate, Wuttichai Techasitthanawat, 35, from Phetchabun prison, was caught this evening after disguising himself as a security guard and sneaking out of the prison today, September 17.
The mischievous prisoner, who was arrested on charges of repeat burglary on July 2, had reportedly gone missing from the prison around 9:55 AM when prison officers were performing an hourly patrol.
CCTV footage of the prison shows that Wuttichai had escaped the prison by dressing in the stolen uniform of a prison staff member named ‘Kittipon Pimmook’ and covering his face with a hat, a mask, and a glove camouflaging like an officer. It is unclear exactly how he got access to the uniform.
He was seen discreetly walking out of the prison gate and fleeing away with a black motorcycle parked in front of the prison. Law Enforcement officials in the province then immediately began hunting the man who was reportedly heading towards the rural area of Na Yom district.
The inmate was eventually found inside an abandoned house later this evening. Wuttichai allegedly confessed that he wanted to break out of the prison because he knew that he was going to be in jail for a long time after his recent sixth arrest over a burglary charge.
He said he decided to conduct the disguise and escape plan by himself in order to escape the prison. Officials from the Phetchabun Prison then arrested the fugitive and eventually brought him back to the prison. Law Enforcement officials also believe the fugitive had assistance in the escape due to a motorbike being parked out front and are following up on potential leads.
