The following is the second part in our ongoing series showing what Pattaya, Thailand looks like with no foreign tourists.

Pattaya is known worldwide as one of the world’s most visited cities and is world famous for its nightlife. Last year the city welcomed almost ten million foreign tourists and about seven million domestic tourists. It was the nineteenth most visited city in the world.

Here is what it looks like now with borders closed to foreign tourists.

For rent signs cover the city. Sign makers are one of the few businesses making money.
Many gogos remain closed, permanently.
It is not just bars suffering,nearly every business in Pattaya has taken a hit. Gem dealers, herb shops you name it.
The Pier has been closed since the pandemic began, once a popular club for Asian customers.
This was a Thai restaurant on Walking Street, now demolished.
Rows of empty and closed beer bars
Some beer bars have become mere shells.
This once busy beer bar complex that catered to Arab customers has been closed since the pandemic began.
Row after row of for rent businesses but no buyers.
Arab restaurants took a huge hit with no Arab customers and not popular with the Thai tourists.
The Holiday Inn project for South Pattaya was scrapped and now the lot is for sale.
The hotels that are open have resorted to major discounts to attract customers but state occupancy is ten percent or less during the week.
Row after row of shuttered Indian restaurants. Due to no Indian tourists nearly all are closed.
Many once busy streets are now empty every day.
Tour agencies across the city are gone, many forever.
