The Thai Ambassador to India, Chutintorn Sam Gongsakdi announced on his twitter account this week that Thailand will be purchasing over 600 TATA LPTA military trucks from India. The exact cost of the purchase was not mentioned.
According to the India Times, Tata Motors is India’s leading auto brand and manufactures high-end military support vehicles not just for India, but one that fits the purpose of international defense deals.
Chutintorn Sam Gongsakdi tweeted on August 25th saying, ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat: The Royal Thai Army is in the process of completing its purchase of over 600 TATA LPTA military trucks…They are rugged & easy to maintain. Fit for purpose. Fit for service of the nation.”
Some users on social media have noted that this truck purchase, although it has evidently been in the works well before Covid-19 and information regarding the contract could be found as early as last year, comes at an interesting time as the Royal Thai Navy has recently been in the news for the purchase of several submarines that have driven intense criticism and debate on social media.
The Royal Thai Navy has defended the purchase, stating the submarine contract was signed and decided upon well before the current economic situation with the Covid-19 Coronavirus.
