Police officers from the Mueang Chonburi Police Station began the investigation after a partly-naked female body was found in a forest near the Bangkok-Chonburi motorway in Nong Ree district this Tuesday, August 11.

The body was identified as Chonthicha Nintanonm who was reportedly struggling with mental illness and often seen wandering around her place.

Footage from a CCTV camera located near the scene captured the moment a suspicious motorcycle carrying one man and and a woman had drove into the abandoned forest around 11:59 PM and came out around 00:26 AM with only a male motorist.

The identical vehicle had also returned to the scene in the morning of the following day. The investigators then tracked down the motorcycle license which eventually led to the arrest of the suspect.

Suthichai allegedly admitted to the crime after his motorcycle and his clothes worn on the day of the incident were found at his place. He claimed that he was sexually aroused by the victim when she asked him for a ride to a convienence store nearby.

According to his statement, he took the woman to the forest and hit her on the head as he was attempting to rape her. He then hit her multiple times and left the scene since he was afraid that she was going to tell the police afterwards.

Chonthicha was already dead when he revisited the scene on the next day. The alleged criminal had locked himself up in his place since then until the police found the evidence and caught him.

Police Colonel Suriya Yuphat, Superintendent of Muang Chonburi Police Station, told the Associated Press that Suthichai was detained at the police station for legal proceedings.

The superintendent stated: “The official history search also revealed that Suthichai had a history of conviction for an attempted murder around January this year.

“Initially, he was detained at the police station while waiting for the autopsy result. He will be charged for raping and murder if the body was found with evidence of sexual assault.” The superintendent concluded.
