Royal Thai navy officer charged after Sattahip hit and run accident injures five

A Royal Thai Navy officer surrendered to police after a hit and run accident which had injured five people in Sattahip yesterday.

The accident took place after midnight on August 10th, 2020 in front of a market in Plu Taluang.

Five people had sustained injuries and the pickup truck immediately sped away. Two of those injured are 14 and 15 year old boys.

One boy, who was not named, told police that he and his friend were driving on a motorbike. They saw another motorbike with three people had broken down on the side of the road. They stopped to see if they could offer assistance when a pickup truck crashed into the entire group.

The Plu Taluang Police Chief Colonel Wuttiphong Somjai named the pickup truck driver as Petty Officer 1st Class Chawarit Wongsamran of the Air and Coastal Defense Command from the Royal Thai Navy.

He surrendered to the police yesterday afternoon. He is facing charges of reckless driving causing serious injuries and hit and run charges. He did not make a public statement to associated reporters at the police station.
