Pattaya-
Police have arrested a gas station staffer in Sa Kaeo who is accused of stealing 358,839 baht in cash from a gas station in South Pattaya.
Ms. Aungsawee PisanChotisakun, 46, an owner of the gas station reported the incident to the Pattaya City Police yesterday, August 10th, 2020.
Aungsawee told police that yesterday she asked her employee, Mr. Sumet Srihiran, 23, to put 358,839 baht cash from the gas station’s deposits into a company account by going to visit a nearby bank.
Sumet left to “deposit” the cash at the bank but hours later he had not returned to work and she was unable to contact him. There was no record of the money being deposited into the company business account. He also had her motorbike, which he “borrowed” to make the deposit.
She told police that normally it is her duty to put daily deposits into the bank account but yesterday she was sick and asked Sumet to assist her as she thought she could trust him as a long-time employee.
Police later arrested Sumet in Sa Kaeo with only 8,000 baht cash left in only a few hours.
Sumet stated that he had a gambling addiction and thought he could double his money by gambling and then deposit the original amount into the company bank account.
He put the money into his personal bank account before using the money for online gambling and immediately lost all of it, according to Sumet and Pattaya Police.
Sumet stated that he panicked after he lost the money and he sped away heading to his hometown with the now stolen motorbike. He was tracked down and arrested by Pattaya Police hours later.
