Abbot of Khon Kaen temple arrested and forced to leave monkhood after allegedly taking up-skirt videos of teenage girl

Khon Kaen-

Abbot Thanachai Srisuriyawong, 48, was accused of taking up-skirt videos of a sixteen-year-old girl’s underpants while she was visiting Samakkhi Pattana Ram temple in Khon Kaen with her family to make merit last Saturday, August 8.

Officers of Chum Phae police station began an investigation and visited the temple on the next day following a police report filed by the parents of the young victim, whose name was not given per our editorial policy.

Pictures and videos of the girl were reportedly found in the suspect’s phone after the police searched his room and office. The pictures reportedly confirmed the complaint made by the parents of the victim. Thanachai then allegedly admitted to the scandalous behavior, claiming that he only wanted to give a lesson for the girl who wore a too-short skirt to the temple and did not mean to take them for sexual purposes.

Police Colonel Rattanasuk Kamwong, Deputy Director of Chum Phae Police Station, said: “We began the investigation as soon as the victim’s father reported the complaint to the police.

“We coordinated and informed the relevant authorities with the Buddhist Council about the behavior of the monk after we found the evidence in Thanachai’s mobile phone.” continued Rattanasuk.

The abbot was forced to leave the monk-hood before being taken to the Chum Phae police station for legal proceedings today, August 10, in the afternoon. He was initially charged for committing an indecent act to the person out of fifteen years of age and causing humiliation to others.
