Samet, Chonburi-
A 24* year old Grab driver fell four floors down an elevator shaft in an apartment building in the Samet sub-district of Chonburi on Wednesday night after the doors to the elevator reportedly opened but the elevator did not arrive.
The man, whose name was withheld by law enforcement, was returning from delivering an order at an apartment building located near the brand new Muang Electricity Market in the Samet sub-district.
He reportedly hit the button to go to the first floor and the elevator opened but the lift was not present. He did not notice and stepped into the open air, falling four floors to land on top of the elevator. He survived the fall but suffered a serious ankle injury along with other smaller injuries.
Rescue workers from the Tham Ratsamaneerat rescue team assisted the man out of the shaft and to a local hospital for medical assistance. The Grab driver reportedly had to be lifted through the elevator shaft via a rope and back to the fourth floor as the lift was not working.
Samet Police are reviewing the incident as well as CCTV to help determine why the lift did not operate properly and what caused the driver to not notice the lift was not present when the doors opened.
