2020 MotoGP race in Buriram, Thailand cancelled due to Covid-19 fears

Buriram-

MotoGP organizers confirmed this weekend that the scheduled MotoGP races in Buriram for October, which had been previously postponed from March, would be cancelled for the 2020 season.

The cancellation is due to fears surrounding the global situation with the Covid-19 Coronavirus. Although Thailand has not had any locally spread cases in roughly 70 days, the organization determined that due to a variety of factors, including difficulty for drivers to enter Thailand without required quarantines, that the races would need to be cancelled for 2020.

Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna Sports, the commercial rights holder of MotoGP, made the announcement but also confirmed what he called good news.

In good news, he confirmed that Thailand will see MotoGP return in 2021, as long as the Covid-19 situation globally has improved. Thailand is also scheduled to host MotoGP races until 2026, he added.
