Chonburi-
A teenage motorbike driver has been pronounced dead after being run over by a tour bus in Mueang Chonburi this morning.
The Mueang Chonburi Police were notified of the accident at 8:30 AM at a traffic intersection in Baan Suan.
Police and emergency responders arrived at the scene to find the body of 17 year old Mr. Jittabut Jitsawang who was bleeding heavily on the road. He was later pronounced dead despite the best efforts of medical staff at the scene of the accident.
Nearby, rescue staff and police found both a heavily damaged green Honda wave motorbike and a slightly damaged tour bus.
The bus driver, 45 year old Mr. Thepphon Pleanthongkam, told police that Jittabut allegedly came out of a cross section near Soi nine at a high speed.
Thepphon told police he was unable to avoid the collision, although reportedly admitted he drove through a yellow light rather than slow his vehicle. However, Thepphon added that the light on Jittabut’s side could not possibly have been green and the incident wasn’t his fault.
Regardless, at this time Mueang Chonburi police have intially decided to charge Thepphon with reckless driving which caused a death. Mueang Chonburi police added that they will be reviewing CCTV at the intersection, however, in full to determine the validity of Theppon’s statements.
