Driver with vision problems crashes into food charity line in Banglamung, injuring seven

Seven people who were waiting in line for a charity food kitchen have sustained various injuries after a 28 year old man driving who said he had serious vision problems crashed into several motorbikes and then a food charity line full of people in Banglamung yesterday.

The Nongprue Police was notified of the incident at 4:30PM near Soi Chaiyaphon Withi 27 in Nongprue.

The Pattaya City Police, emergency responders and The Pattaya News arrived at the scene to find a chaotic scene, with multiple damaged motorbikes, people lying on the ground in pain and the driver and his damaged vehicle nearby. The driver was badly shaken and emotional, apologizing profusely while waiting for police. The driver was uninjured.

Seven injured people were found at the scene of the accident in total. They were taken to a local hospital for medical support.

The sedan driver, who is 28 years old and whose name was withheld while the incident is under investigation, told The Pattaya News that he was unable to see the people waiting in the line. He claimed that he has serious vision problems.

Police conducted a drug and alcohol test on the driver but the results were negative. The man is legally licensed to drive despite his apparent vision problems. The driver was fully cooperative with police and stated he was very apologetic for the incident and those injured. Discussion of financial aid or support for the victims did not take place at the scene but is expected to take place over the next several days.

The driver was taken to the Banglamung Police station to discuss the incident further and fill out legal documentation.
