Thai Education Minister decides to close all schools, including private, nationwide starting tomorrow

Bangkok-

The Thai Education Minister Natthaphon Teepsuwan has ordered all schools nationwide to be closed from Wednesday March 18 onwards, in order to tackle the spread of Covid-19, said the ministry’s permanent secretary Prasert Boonrueng today.

He stated that the order was for the well being of students and that the order will take effect tomorrow with no definitive end date. He said they would reopen when the situation improves.

He also said this includes everything, including accredited language schools, music schools, private schools, tutoring, etc. The decision puts millions of students out of school nationwide. The Pattaya News notes many schools were already on break or had already closed, this order now extends that.

The permanent secretary explained that any private school which violates this announcement will have its licence confiscated, while the management of government schools will be disciplined for the same violation.
