Pattaya Police check local hotels for Thai teenagers being allowed to “check in” against Thai Law on Valentine’s Day

Pattaya-

As part of a countrywide crackdown on Valentine’s Day, Pattaya Police inspected several area motels and short term rental hotels in the Pattaya area this afternoon and evening, searching for hotel owners who rent rooms to teenagers under the age of eighteen.

In recent years, conservative groups and religious organizations in Thailand have called for the raids, stating that hotel owners should be held fully responsible for renting rooms to teenagers and that sex outside of marriage is against proper conservative values.

Police reminded business owners that checking ID of all individuals who check in is required and that they must call the 24 hour a day hotline, 191, to report any violations.

In Thailand, Valentine’s is sometimes called Teenagers Day for the amount of teenagers that meet up and often rent hotel rooms. The checks are being performed all across Thailand today.
