Killer in Lopburi Mall mass shooting may have fled to Chonburi, Thai police say, hunt continues

The robber who killed three people and injured four others during a gold shop heist in Lop Buri last week is believed to have fled to Chon Buri, according to a police source and the Bangkok Post.

The possibility was raised after army chief Apirat Kongsompong met with the chiefs of Provincial Police Regions 1 and 2 at the First Army Region headquarters in Bangkok on Monday. Chon Buri province falls under the jurisdiction of Provincial Police Region 2.

While no confirmed details about the crime and the perpetrator have emerged since the slayings took place on Jan 9, several reports speculate that the killer may be a former military officer. To date, authorities have not ruled out the possibility.

Authorities also stressed that there had been no arrests in the crime at this point and that news that arrests had been made were fake news. The Royal Thai Police also warned people on social media, mostly youth, not to dress up like the killer and take photos for social media after several photos went viral this week of people doing so.

The Thai Royal Police also stated to the press that CCTV was still being heavily reviewed and solid information and leads had come from CCTV on roads outside of the shooting area that were still being followed up upon.
