Sa Kaeo –
A mass raid for counterfeit brand name goods at a market in Sa Kaeo today resulted in a warehouse of seized goods with a reported value of thirty million baht.
A team of officers led by Mr. Prateep Sommang, the head of Thai Customs Region 1, raided a warehouse near the border to Cambodia after a tip off from a concerned citizen.
The team of officers discovered counterfeit brand name shoes, bags, liquor and sport uniforms which in total valued at about 30 million baht. No one was found at the warehouse, however, police told the associated Thai media that Cambodian guards at the warehouse fled just before the raid, likely tipped off by an informant.
Sa Kaeo officers are continuing their investigation for further legal action.
The warehouse, according to Prateep, was used as a central storage point to distribute goods across the Eastern seaboard of Thailand, especially Pattaya. The raid will help prevent a large amount of counterfeit goods from reaching potential consumers.
In recent years many companies have pushed Thai authorities to take further action on pirated goods and punish distributors and vendors. The brand name companies state the pirated goods are of low quality and that consumers should ensure they purchase only verified brand name goods.
