PCC match report – Indoor cricket league – Round 4

Round 4 was played on 3 Oct at the Rugby School Thailand (RST), Banglamung, between RST and Pattaya Cricket Club (PCC). Was it going to be PCC levelling the series 2 all or RST gaining revenge for last week’s 1 run defeat. Were the debutants; Tim Jones for RST and Ben Charleston for PCC going to make a difference. They both took wickets and the close game ebbed and flowed until one run separated them in the penultimate over. RST won by 12 runs.

PCC opened with Bernie Lamprecht and Edwin van Rensburg. A reasonable score of 27 but marred by 2 wickets, Bernie bowled by the unerring Chris Landop and Edwin caught by Carl Pohl off Nick Hitchmough. Trevor Moolman and Ben Charleston smashed 43 for 0 and got PCC into a commanding position. Unfortunately, Trevor tore a hamstring and retired hurt.

PCC then lost their momentum with Matt Harkness out three times (B, Ct and RO) and Wezley Masterton contained by fast accurate bowling from Ryan Driver and Chris who was getting some inswing and bowling a few real jaffas. 20 added for 3 wickets lost. Pavit Grover and Richard added 30 for 2, loosing wickets to Tim Jones and Lewis Madd.

The final pair of Andy Emery and Matt Harkness made a good score of 34 but Matt was having a terrible evening and lost 2 more wickets to PCC’s nemesis, Chris. That proved to be crucial. PCC finished with 165 for 9, reduced to 120.

RST began their run chase with a staunch 25 for 0 from John Mayall and Pete Reeha. Chris Pohl and Nick Hitchmough were up next. Nick thought it would be good to copy Matt H from PCC and lost his wicket 4 times for only 3 runs; twice to Andy and once each to Matt and Ben . Chris kept things going with his 20 runs but RST were 28 runs adrift.

Guthrie Miller and Charlie Rowe steadied the ship with rapid running between the wickets and scored 35 for 1. Guthrie being bowled by Andy Emery’s quick in-swingers, whilst Ben Charleston’s slow looping off-spin, even slower and loopier than Charlie’s, was taken for 18 in the 9th over. Chris and Tim Jones continued the fightback with aggressive running.

Too aggressive with Chris runout via a “Yes. No. Wait, err, sorry.”. They scored 36 for 1 and RST were 99 for 6, ahead by 3 runs. Captain Ryan Driver and Lewis Madd were the final pair and they made 27 runs but also received 15 extras. Lewis lost his wicket via a run out to Matt, leaving RST ahead by 1. The final over was bowled by Matt and despite having Lewis being caught by Wezley, the extras kept coming and RST won by 12 runs.

All of the quick bowlers bowled well with Chris Lindop being the best with 3 overs, 15 for 4 for RST. The best batsman was Ben Charleston with 27 for zero outs.
