Police continue to crackdown on illegal tours and tour guides in Pattaya

Pattaya –
The Pattaya Tourist Police have continued to crackdown on illegal tours and tour guides today, September 5th, 2019, by conducting numerous random inspections of tour guides in the Pattaya Beach area.

Lt Col Piyaphong Ensan of the Pattaya Tourist Police told The Pattaya News today “This year we have arrested 18 illegal tour guides both Thais and foreigners in the Pattaya area.”

“We have found Thais (without proper job training), Chinese, Indians, Vietnamese and Myanmar citizens being illegal tour guides.” He continued.

“475 illegal tour guides have been arrested for offenses to the Tourism Industry and Guide Act in total country wide this year.” Stated Lt. Col Ensan.

“The punishment for offenses to the Tourism Business and Guide Act is up to one year imprisonment and up to a 100,000 baht fine.” He finished.

A tour guide is a restricted job occupation for a Thai National with proper training and licensing only. A foreigner cannot legally be a tour guide and a work permit for this occupation is not available, notes The Pattaya News.
