Fishing hooks found inside dead sea turtle in Chonburi.

Sri Racha –

Fishing hooks were found inside a deceased sea turtle on a beach in Bang Phra this weekend. Officers at the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) were notified from local residents that the sea turtle was found dead on Captain Yut Beach.

It was an endangered female Hawksbill sea turtle. It is 65 centimetres wide and 73 centimetres long. No microchip was found on it, which are commonly used to track many endangered sea turtles in the area.

The turtle had started to decay due to time in the sun.

The autopsy shows that two fishing hooks were found inside its intestine.

This is at least the seventh dead sea turtle found in the area over the past few months. The turtles have a protected nesting ground on nearby islands and the Gulf off of Pattaya is a common breeding and feeding ground for the turtles.
