Major tropical storm over next few days in North and Eastern Thailand, including Pattaya

Storm arriving over March 7th to March 9th

BANGKOK, 5th March 2018 (NNT) – The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has warned those living in the upper regions of Thailand of heavy rains from March 7th – 9th, due to a high pressure system moving in from China.

DDPM Director-General Chayapol Thitisak, has instructed its regional offices to prepare for emergencies and flooding around the clock during this period.

Heavy rain and strong winds have been forecast in upper parts of Thailand in the middle of the week as a tropical summer storm arrives in the Northeast before moving towards the North, Central Plains and the East.

Residents in these areas are advised to secure their homes and remain indoors during thunderstorms, as well as to watch out for broken branches and falling billboards. People have also been warned not to carry objects that can conduct electricity while outdoors.

Heavy rains and flooding are expected along with high winds.

The following is the list of expected to be affected provinces with heavy rain over the next few days:

6-7 March

North: Phitsanulok and Phetchabun.

Northeast: Loei, Nong Bua Lam Phu, Nong Khai, Udon Thani, Bueng Kan, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, Khon Kaen, Chaiyaphum, Nakhon Ratchasima, Maha Sarakham, Kalasin, Roi Et, Yasothon, Amnart Charoen, Buri Ram, Surin, Si Sa Ket and Ubon Ratchathani.

East: Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Sa Kaeo, Chachoengsao, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat.

Central: Nakhon Sawan, Lop Buri, Saraburi, Uthai Thani, Chai Nat, Sing Buri, Ang Thong, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya including Bangkok and its vicinity.

8-9 March

Northeast: Loei, Nong Bua Lam Phu, Khon Kaen, Chaiyaphum, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buri Ram, Surin, Si Sa Ket and Ubon Ratchathani.

North: Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Phrae, Nan, Lamphun, Lampang, Tak, Sukhothai, Uttaradit, Phitsanulok, Kamphaeng Phet, Phichit and Phetchabun.

Central: Nakhon Sawan, Lop Buri, Saraburi, Uthai Thani, Chai Nat, Sing Buri, Ang Thong, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Suphan Buri, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi including Bangkok and its vicinity.

East: Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Sa Kaeo, Chachoengsao, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat

South: Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon and Surat Thani
