PATTAYA:– Pattaya residents want to know why their trash has not been picked up for three days and has been piling up in certain villages and outlying portions of Pattaya.
Former city council member Ittiwat Wattanasartsathorn said several residents across the city had called him to report that stinking, rotting garbage was piling up in their villages because no one came to collect it. Additionally, it has been reported that it attracted stray dogs and caused numerous headaches for local residents.
Ittiwat speculated that the city’s contract with its garbage collector may have ended or is being renewed, causing the delay in pickups.
Local residents interviewed by Thai Visa stated this happens often at this time of year over the past several years but they have never had a solid answer on why.
Pattaya’s contract with trash company Environmental Conservation Organization expired on Oct. 31, but city officials had said in August they would extend it because they didn’t prepare to find a replacement in time as they continue to search for alternatives.
We here at The Pattaya News have heard that trash collection should resume imminently and the contract situation is being resolved.
